My Musical Journey!
ABOUT ME
MY BIOGRAPHY
From the tender age of 4, Charlotte has had a passion for performing on the trombone.
Charlotte Horsfield was born into a family firmly rooted in the brass band tradition, with her grandfather David (a cornet player) performing in The Brighouse and Rastrick Band and the World-Famous Black Dyke Band, aswell as her father Graham (a tuba player) encouraging her in her musical journey from her first day of playing.
Charlotte started playing in the Clifton and Lightcliffe Band like every other member of the Horsfield family before joining the Hammonds Band at the age of 15. Within her time at Hammonds, Charlotte was a featured soloist and awarded ‘Player of the Year’, performing ‘Bolivar’ at Brass in Concert at the Sage, Gateshead. Throughout her teens, Charlotte also played with Elland Silver Youth Band who are well known for their countless successes at many youth band contests, along with The National Youth Brass Band which provided her fantastic performance opportunities at venues including the Barbican, London and most importantly great friends for life.
In 2017, Charlotte joined The Fairey Band, where she continues to enjoy her time at the band; following a successful year performing at the European Brass Band Championships in Utrecht, Holland, The British Open Championships and The National Brass Band Championships.
At the age of 16, Charlotte attended Greenhead College, where her musical and academic aspects increased greatly. During this time, Charlotte has an impressive number of accolades to her name, including being awarded the prestigious ‘Best Soloist’ prize at the European Brass Band Youth Championships at Oostende, Belgium in 2016.
Charlotte also played with the Big Band at Greenhead College, performing at the Music for Youth Festival at The Royal Albert Hall on 1st Trombone before going on a tour in Berlin for a week. She was also a recipient of the Young Musician of the Year twice and received a bursary from NOEL for exceptional talent.
Charlotte has been lucky enough to have been impacted by the tutelage of highly commended players from the likes of Katy Jones, Roger Cutts, Chris Thomas and Chris Gomersall. The variety of influences Charlotte has received has created a well-rounded, versatile musician.
In 2017, Charlotte began her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music. During her time at the conservatoire she has already been successful in gaining a place in the Symphony Orchestra, where she will perform Mahler 5 at the Bridgewater Hall, gaining a ‘First’ in her first year, founding her Quintet '0161 Brass' and having expertise tuition from Zoltan Kiss, Sue Addison and Jiggs Whigham, widening her musical knowledge of jazz, varying European styles and period instruments such as the sackbut.
Charlotte wishes to further her musical career for many years to come; aspiring to pursue her work as a professional musician. This would include expanding her participation in show/musical work, doing Session work- whether it be in a Backing Horn group in a pop band or a large Session Orchestra, along with continuing her involvement in the brass band movement, sticking to her roots.
